Beefer Madness

A friend of mine sent this article to me on Facebook and I found it necessary to address this on my blog. First off, this is unfortunate for the people involved and, if there was anyone at fault other than a "300-pound bodybuilder", this would have never made national news; However, because of the criminal at hand, it opens a whole world of debate regarding steroids and even bodybuilders in general.

It is a common misconception that bodybuilders are these giant freaks with no regard to their own health who can "roid rage" at any given moment. In fact, many bodybuilders enter the sport to obtain a certain look and a healthy lifestyle. Bodybuilders must lift weights, do cardiovascular training, keep track of macro nutrients, etc. Overall, this is a very healthy lifestyle, the only exception being when things are taken to the extreme via use of diuretics, steroid abuse, and so on.

Note that I mentioned steroid "abuse" and not "use". There is a reason for this. There have actually been zero confirmed deaths from the use of steroids. There may be lots of side effects, but when used properly, these can be reversed or not even occur to begin with. There is no such thing as "roid rage". It simply doesn't exist and there have been no studies (as far as I know) that confirm otherwise. If a person is an aggressive asshole before the use of steroids, they will still be afterward, but they don't turn people into monsters.

I, myself, do not use steroids, but I know a few people who do, and these people are very stable, maintain employment and continue to live a healthy life full of healthy friendships and relationships. In my opinion, people should do their research and see that bodybuilding nor steroids are to blame for this crime or countless others for which they take the fall (Chris Benoit, anyone?).

Also, the fact that this guy is 300 lbs at only 22 years of age astounds me. He's either fat or on massive quantities of steroids (A.K.A "abuse").

Come at me bro!
